Born a quadruple amputee\, John shares life experiences with humor and thought about where we are as people today and tomorrow. \nIn March\, 2018\, John Robinson was awarded the Capital Region Chamber Champion of the Year in front of 1100 New York business leaders! John Proudly accepted one of ten national White House Champions of Change for Disability Employment in 2014 in Washington\, D.C. Since 2011\, he’s served as managing partner\, CEO\, and Founder of Our Ability\, which provides inclusive workforce and employment consulting\, mentoring\, workshops\, keynotes\, and seminars on disability and diversity. Our Ability is building a coalition of New York State businesses interested in hiring individuals with disabilities. Topics include: \n\nCoping with everyday life\nThe special needs of mothers and fathers\nIssues facing siblings\nWorking together as a couple\nReducing stress\nThe meaning of acceptance\n\nAbout our Presenter: \nRobert Naseef\, Ph.D. has a distinct voice as a psychologist and father of an adult son with autism. He has spoken around the country and trained professionals internationally in treating autism and supporting families. Along with Stephen Shore\, Ed.D.\, Dr. Naseef is a lead consultant to the Arc of Philadelphia and SAP’s “Autism at Work” program which involves collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. He speaks at conferences nationally and internationally on issues facing families of children with autism and other special needs. He has a special interest in the psychology of men and fatherhood. They ask for what they need and want\, and try to have as much of a say as possible in making life decisions. Self-advocates are able to:\n\nLive as independently as possible\nDo the things they like\nPursue goals after high school\nGet a job in the career field they want\nHave healthy relationships\nControl their own body and health\nManage their own money\nGet the services and supports they need\n\nSelf-Advocacy is important for youth with disabilities in order to:\n\nUnderstand their rights in different education settings and the workplace\nKnow how and when to ask for accommodations\nKnow how to navigate the community and access the services and supports needed\nAdvocate for friends and family members who also have disabilities.\n\nFrom: http://www.youthpowerny.org\n\nAbout our Presenters: \nNancy Craig is the Director of Community and Systems Engagement and Parent Advisor Liaison for Families Together in NYS. Nancy started as an advocate for her own children as they entered the mental health system and her passion continues to be in empowering and strengthening parent’s lives. Nancy is also the Director of Statewide Training and presents at local\, regional and national conferences on Family Peer Support Service outcomes. \nElijah Fagan-Solis is the Statewide Emerging Leadership Manager for Youth Power! At age 14\, Elijah was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure and labeled disabled. Despite the label placed on him\, Elijah was determined not to let a disability control his life or future. Today\, Elijah has worked with the NYS Assembly\, is a member of two national honor societies and has received awards for involvement in his community and for his belief in the ability of people to change\, grow and make a contribution to the world. He is also highly active in his\nchurch where he serves as a Deacon\, the administrative assistant and heads the youth ministry program. \nZack Kilmer is the NYISA Coordinator for Youth Power! Zack is a LGBTQ+ young adult with autism who has had a passion for activism and civics since he was a child. Where are they learning about sex\, sexuality and all things sexy? How does this influence their actions?\nHarmful effects of the repression of sexual expression.\nDispelling myths about sexuality and disability.\nBuilding disability pride= positive self-image.\nWhat does my child need to know?\nWhere can I get help?!\nGood touch/bad touch\, private vs. public\n\nAbout our Presenter:\nConsuelo Senior\, LMSW\nMental Health Clinician\, Transformational Speaker\, Consultant\, Staff Trainer\, Educator\, Sexuality Expert. \nConsuelo has 21 years of experience working in the field of mental health and intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Consuelo brings a myriad of experience from a variety of areas within the field; psychotherapist and consultant\, staff trainer\, case manager\, quality assurance\, administrator\, direct support professional\, educator and transformational speaker. Consuelo has trained and developed curricula for a wide range of topics of importance to the disability field (Autism\, Complex Needs\, Aging\, Multiple Disabilities\, Dementia/Alzheimer\, Social-Sexual Issues\, Vocational\, Dual Diagnosis\, Mental Illness and Profound Disabilities). In addition\, also\, Professional Development\, Cultural & Immigration Issues\, Diversity and Inclusion\, Leadership\, and Emotional Intelligence. \nConsuelo has been providing social-sexuality education for 17 years to professionals\, families\, people with disabilities and professionals in the field. Ms. Senior practices both group and individual psychotherapy (13 years) with groups\, families and individuals ranging in age from 6 to 65+ years\, with and without cognitive disabilities. Ms. Senior currently practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy\, Play Therapy\, Schema Therapy & sex therapy. Ms. Senior’s mission is to help others to live their best life. Consuelo is an adjunct lecturer at City College of New York (Disability and Social Work courses) and Adelphi University (Social Work-Graduate Courses). Consuelo has presented at numerous conferences across the country and internationally\, for a variety of audiences. She has also presented at symposiums\, radio programs and panel discussions as an expert mental health clinician. Consuelo is an agency representative to the U.N’s Economic and Social Council and is published in The Autism Spectrum News. This year in addition to our traditional Duck Derby activities we will also have a special musical guest\, Flame the Band\, who will be performing at the Foothills Performing Arts Center immediately following the Duck Derby!! \nFlame is a group of musicians with powerful vocals\, smooth harmonies and a rich array of instruments\, the 8- person cover band from Gloversville\, NY happens to have disabilities. Flame’s mission is to change the world through music. They inspire people with disabilities and give hope to them and their families – hope that they can do great things and live a fun and fulfilling life. Flame’s performances help change how the public perceives people with disabilities and increase the awareness and acceptance of all people\, regardless of their differences. \nThe Duck Derby will consist of multiple heats of duck races throughout the afternoon. CASH PRIZES will be awarded to first\, second and third place finishers in each race.  At the end of the day all ducks will be entered in the final race for a chance to win the grand prize!!! \nWhile Ducks can be purchased the day of the event\, they can also be purchased in advance at the Family Resource Network located at 46 Oneida Street\, Oneonta.
