SUMMARY:Self-Care Workshop for Parents/Caregivers: Virtual Chair Yoga
DESCRIPTION:SELF-CARE WORKSHOP\nfor Parents/Caregivers:\nVirtual Chair Yoga \nPRESENTED BY THE FAMILY RESOURCE NETWORK \n  \n  \nThis workshop is for parents and caregivers. \n  \n  \n  \nChair Yoga description:\nChair yoga is a gentle practice with the support of a sturdy kitchen chair which can be done anywhere. \n\nYou will be taken through a sequence of poses\, seated & standing\, to increase range of motion & build strength in muscles including those surrounding joints.\nBreath work will be included to promote a deeper sense of relaxation and improve lung capacity.\nPractice will be followed by a cooldown period including 4 minutes of progressive relaxation and a few minutes of final relaxation (Savasana).\nIt is important during these last few minutes of class to avoid as many distractions as possible to receive full benefit.\nYou will walk away feeling relaxed\, refreshed\, and rejuvenated.\n\n**It is best to do yoga on an empty stomach or having allowed the body to digest for 1½ hours prior to practice. This will alleviate stomach upset. Don’t forget to have water with you too!** \n  \nABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR Kelly Morrissey \n  \n(Add photo here/center) \n  \nKelly Morrissey has been teaching yoga since 2011. DESCRIPTION:Transplanting and Beginning our Outdoor Gardens\nGardening Series: Part 2 \nWednesday\, June 9th at 5 pm via Zoom \nIt is now time to transition our plants to the outdoors. Some of you may be using raised beds/buckets/pots while others may choose to transplant your plants directly into the ground. We will go over both\, as well as talk about some other plants you may want to start directly from seeds now! Leading up to this event you will want to acclimate your baby plants to the outdoor environment. Each day for about a week prior to this event (weather permitting…don’t put them out if its overly windy\, raining really hard) place your plants outdoors in natural sunlight for several hours. \nIf you did not participate in part one or two or your baby plants didn’t grow as expected\, that’s ok! You can still participate in this event! In order to receive the free supply kit prior to event participants must register by May 26th. If you live within 10 miles from the Family Resource Network\, the supplies can be delivered. If you do not\, you will be required to schedule a time to pick up the supplies from the office. \nThis event is open to both Teen Scene and Dragon Dates groups. Teen Scene is currently open to all school aged youth. We are also requiring the 6 feet Social Distancing Rule from the CDC.GOV website when we are in a group.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStone Hill Blueberry Farm\n362 Stone Hill Road\nAfton\, NY 13730\n\nPlease join the Family Resource Network for a late morning of blueberry picking! This event will be held at Stone Hill Blueberry Farm on Saturday\, July 31st from 10:00am-12:00pm. The Family Resource Network will be providing a light refreshment and will pay for each person that attends to bring home up to two quarts of blueberries!  Stone Hill Blueberry Farm has premeasured buckets for everyone to pick the blueberries in but everyone is encouraged to bring their own containers to transport their blueberries home!\nIf you would like to attend please register by 12:00 p.m. on July 30th.\n\nThis FREE event is for individuals with OPWDD eligibility living in the family home in Broome\, Chenango\, Otsego\, Delaware\, Tioga or Tompkins County. DESCRIPTION:Please join The Family Resource Network\n and Starbridge\, Inc.\nfor a half-day advocacy workshop:\n\nFunctional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans\n\n\nSometimes a child’s behaviors interfere with learning. Students and teachers need strategies to minimize those behaviors and to maximize learning opportunities. This workshop will explore the nature of a child’s behavior and when a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) should be requested. An FBA helps to determine why a student engages in behaviors that impede learning. We will share tools and strategies to support student success\, and what types of supports and services might be needed. \n¨ Understand the terms Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan \n¨ Understand the process by which these are developed \n¨ Be able to actively participate in the process of developing these plans\n\nAbout our Speaker:\nKara Georgi is the Parent Education Specialist for Starbridge parent training and information center.
